On Monday, Luka Modricbrought an end to a decade-long dominance of football’s biggest individual prize, by claiming FIFA’s Best Men’s Player of the Year.

Luka Modric who is a Croatia midfielder, ran out as a resounding winner at the Royal Festival Hall, with 29.05% of the votes.

Captains and managers of nations from around the world were asked to pick three players for the award, and the full list of votes were published shortly after Monday’s ceremony had concluded.

Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi, who surprisingly didn’t make the top three, voted for Modric, Kylian Mbappe and rival Cristiano Ronaldo in that order.

Cristiano Ronaldo, however did not repay the favour, as he voted for Raphael Varane, Modric and Antoine Griezmann.
