Workers besiege National Assembly for public hearing.
Nigerian workers have besieged the National Assembly Complex as the House of Representatives holds a public hearing on the New Minimum Wage Bill today.
President Muhammadu Buhari had last week present the executive bill to the legislature, proposing a new minimum wage of N27,000.
The bill had passed the first and second readings at the Senate and the House on Thursday, while the Speaker, Mr Yakubu Dogara, had said the bill might be passed on Tuesday (tomorrow).
Several lawmakers who spoke on the bill had dismissed the N27,000 as “grossly inadequate” while insisting on N30,000 as recommended by a tripartite committee made up of the government (federal and states), the organised labour and the organised private sector.
